This speaker, Alan Watts, appears in two of Kerouac's books. In Big Sur he is Arthur Wayne and in Desolation Angels he is Alex Aum. He was also friends with Joseph Campbell and they postulated about Sir Frazer's and Jung's thing, no doubt. Broadcasting on the radio, talks and recordings of teachings, Alan Watts was not selling anything; he's entertaining, just trying to make us think, he's trying to better the "Whole blinkin' cosmos." In his voice, you can tell he loves and respects his audience. It's my firm opinion that Obi Wan Kenobi is modeled after him. Alan Watts was introduced to me by a random hand on youtube at the crucial moment in time. It could not have happened earlier, or I would not have been ready for it.
I 100% concur with you that The Jedi Master, Obi Wan Kenobi, was inspired or modeled after Alan Wilson Watts.
ReplyDeleteThere are too many coincidences for it NOT to be true!
The robe, the tone of voice. The fact Joseph Campbell was friends with Alan Watts AND the fact that George Lucus gave Campbell a FREE home on his properly. And Campbell is by far smart enough to capture Watts after his death in 1973.
I have absolutely NO doubts. Another funny thing is that the Actor that plays Obi Wan was also Eclectic actor that played every type of roles imaginable. And he was also British (for the voice) ...
